Every now and then, life gives you a moment that stays with you long after it’s over.
Years ago, when I was stationed in Germany, I had one of those moments. I was walking through a small town early in the morning when an older gentleman slowed down beside me. We didn’t share a language, not really — his English was limited, and my German wasn’t much better — but he still offered a simple line that stayed with me:
“You carry calm.”
Just three words. No long conversation. No shared history. Just a quiet recognition between two people from different places, different cultures, different lives.
It reminded me that kindness doesn’t need translation. Sometimes a stranger sees something in you that you didn’t even realize you were showing.
And that moment has traveled with me ever since.
